Its been almost a month since I am here in the Mysore campus. Happen to see lots of trainees roaming around the huge campus with their cell phones playing loud music. We have changed the way we dress, the way we eat and the way we converse . Everything has been westernized. But the culture of playing music while walking has been taken from our villages.
During my childhood I used to see lots of workers returning back to home with radio kept in the cycle playing music. This is a typical small town/village culture.
Good to see employees of one of the biggest company in India turning back to the old small town culture of playing music while walking .
Indeed a Strange phenomenon.

Bribe baby Bribe
Back to blogging after a month. This time few incidents that happened in my life over the past 1 month.
Scene 1 : New Delhi International Airport. Jan 2nd 2008. Its 1.30 AM . I checked out my luggage and was going out to board a bus to Domestic Airport. While coming out of customs 2 security guys caught me and asked me whats there in my suitcase. Its marked 'X' by chalk piece. I am pretty sure the customs check has already been done.
1 security guy told me to go to customs and do checking once again. The other guy was reluctant to leave me. I asked the security where should I do checking . He told some gate number. I said I will go there. But the other guy stopped me from going there. He told not to go there but to give him some dollars/Euros/Rupees so that I can go out without doing proper checking. I told I will do checking once again and he said not to go there. After few minutes I went out.
Lesson : Security asking bribe to a passenger not to do his duty.
Scene 2 : Mysore-Mayiladudhurai Express. Me travelling in RAC. Got a co-passenger whose friend was not travelling that day. He gave me that seat. We agreed to travel by mutual consent. TTR was against it. Finally going back and forth with the co-passenger I got my seat. The role of TTR is null. But still when I got my seat by the other TTRs approval, I was asked a bribe by this guy.
Lesson : TTR asking bribe to do his duty.
Bribery is prevalent all over the world , but its quite explicit here in India. When these menace is going to change in India ?

Indian Modia
So much news about Narendra Modi these days , I doubt whether its Indian Media or Indian Modia !
Newsmaker of the month is definitely Modi. Whatever he does , whatever he utters is making news these days. The media is taking on the man by all means. It seems its an election between media (both TV and print) and Narendra Modi. Who will triumph at the end will be known once the results of Gujarat Elections are out.
Till then all the best Narendra "Bhai" Modi and Indian Media !!

A movie about you
Happened to watch "Evano Oruvan" last Saturday. After reading the reviews I went with an expectation that I am going to see a different movie.
The movie starts with a brief overview of a normal middle-class person's daily life. Sridhar Vasudevan(Madhavan) is a guy who works for a private bank and his wife Vatsala(Sangeetha) is a house wife. They have 2 kids. They live a normal life at Nanganallur, Chennai. Sridhar is a normal middle class guy who fights for day to day living. He sees lots of happening in the society which people take it for granted.
Incidents like a shop keeper charging 2 rupees extra for coke, a road side shop keeper dumping things near hospital, a bike parked in no parking area, a water tanker guy asking 100 rupees extra to give water. Madhavan asks question to each and everyone of them in a violent way.

How he transforms back to a normal guy and being treated as a fool by the society forms the rest of the story.
The way Madhavan deals with problem is what a normal guy would do. Its very natural.
Madhavan fits the role of Sridhar Vasudevan as a tee. He hasn't over (re)acted in any of the scene which is good.He is ably supported by Sangeetha and Seeman. Everyone in the film has done their job with perfection.
This movie is about you and me who sees atrocities in society day in and day out. We generally satisfy ourselves with whatever we get and that's what forms the theme of the movie.
No songs, No dance,No heroism, No fight sequence, No villain, No romance. Even if the movie has so many "No" I would rate this as a "Yes" movie .
Ps: Those who want entertainment can ignore this movie . Its not for you.

...Of the year 2K7
End of the year will always spur up polls across television channels, web sites on choosing news maker of the year, song of the year, movie of the year etc., etc.,
But why all these fuss at the end of the year. Its like appraisal happening at the end of the year for guys working in private sectors. Media is appraising the celebrities. Who made the news throughout the year. Which movie is the best , which song is the best so on and so forth.
But as an individual what good you did in the year, What bad you did in the year. Who is appraising that ? where will I get that report card from ? You might tell me that you have to appraise yourself and you have to rate yourself.
As an individual I always put high rating for myself. I want someone to do that. According to Hindu Mythology "Chitraguptan" in heaven is having count of all your good deeds and bad deeds. If he is having I would like to have a look at my page in his Y2k7 diary :)

Blog headed
People might have heard about "block" in the heart, I have something called "blog" in my head.
After I started writing blogs, everything I see , everything I read I am trying to create blog out of it.
Is this a syndrome that every blog writer faces ? Every time I travel in train , every time I am alone at home, walk alone, sitting inside the loo , I think about writing about something .
Hope it subsides as time flies by :)

Is this Independence ??
Happened to read the latest article in NewYorkTimes
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/23/world/asia/23india.html?_r=1&oref=slogin .
The article talks about new found Independence in Indian Women because of Career opportunity.
Its a wonderful article to tell it to the west that Indian women are no longer conservative. In fact west already know it based on their experiences like Indra Nooyi being CEO of Pepsi. Women empowerment is way ahead in US compared to India, We are slowly catching up. At least in Urban India women are more Independent, bold and powerful compared to villages.
I find lots of managers here in client side who are women and doing a wonderful job. Its very large in number compared to number of managers in India. The new found independence as discussed in that article will at least help in bridging the gap.
Having said that, at the end of the article one girl has told the author that she is living freely in Bangalore. Here, her boyfriend can come and go without anyone asking questions. That's what is Independence projected by the west. Does it apply to our culture our tradition? Good question.
The Girl at the end confesses that she broke away from family and married her boyfriend. This is what is called Independence by the west. Proof that we are getting westernized in every sector and soon there is going to be no difference between us and US .
Where are we going ?
